In the summer of 2005, it came to the attention of the GOPBC that a number of our children were interested in dancing. After a diligent search, GOPBC president Stephanie Kieszak-Holloway arranged for an Atlanta dance studio to work with several of our children, offering them dance classes. The first session has come and gone with great success as the numerous following photos may help to demonstrate.
We plan to make these an ongoing option for interested parents in the Atlanta area and invite interested parties outside Atlanta to contact us for information on ways to design a dance program for visually impaired children in their areas as well.
Many experts agree that promoting movement is especially important for blind and vision impaired children. Most parents agree that little children like to dance. Put those two thoughts together and dance classes begin to make a lot of sense for our children. The socilization aspects of such a class are also a great thing for the little ones. The dancers and teachers all had a great time working and learning together.
Many thanks to Studio Dionne for working so well with the GOPBC to make these classes possible!
