GOPBC In the Community

One reason the GOPBC is growing and really beginning to have an impact on our community and truly help Georgia's blind and visually impaired children and their families is community involvement. It is interesting to see how simply being present at a local health fair and distributing fliers and books can spread considerable awareness of our organization which helps make people aware of the GOPBC and NFB. It also helps the community learn about blindness and vision impairment in general. Many people who are not doing "the right thing" around our children just need some more information. Knowledge is power. Like it asks on the sign in the photo above: "What can a blind person do? Anything but see."
We the parents of Georgia's blind and visually impaired children can help serve as ambassadors for our children to let our community know that our kids are just regular kids who, with a few simple accommodations, can function in our communities just like everyone else.
You don't have to get a booth at a health fair to help spread the word either. When you have an appropriate opportunity, speak up and let people know about matters of importance to our children. Find ways to involve your kids in the activities of "typical" children. It really isn't that hard.
