Many people don't know much about blindness.
How does the average person react to (or interact with) a blind person?
What do you say to a blind person when you meet one?
If a blind person is walking up the street towards you or standing on the street corner as you pass by, what should you do?
Can a blind person have a typical job or live on his or her own without help?
These are but a few of the questions that people might ask of a blind person if they had the chance, but how would that happen? Well, one way that might happen for a young person is if a blind professional were to come to your child's school to speak with a group of students– to tell them about how they work and live and to answer questions that these children may have.
The GOPBC has taken steps to begin a program of arranging for blind professionals to come and speak with groups of students about just that.
With the assistance of Anil Lewis, NFB of Georgia President, and other members and friends of the NFB of Georgia we will make every effort to arrange for such presentations upon request.
A video presentation of one of these presentations has also been prepared and may be made available for viewing as appropriate. We hope to build a library of other informative videos over the months and years to come.
